1974 Maserati Merak UK RHD £ WITHDRAWN
Stunning example with fantastic history and provenance
The 1974 Maserati Merak offered has been owned for the last 40 years by the same gentleman in his private car collection and what a interesting gentleman and car to.
The gentleman who has owned the car for the last forty years is in fact a highly skilled mechanic and has had a close link in Formula 1 past and present, Bruce has worked with many well known drivers in the past namely niki lauda and was his main mechanic in the days when formula 1 was a sport not like it is today ( some would say), he was also involved with the Maclaren F1 road car project from day one and laterally in the Halo protection system on current formula 1 cars.
So that’s the owner now the car, originally painted in Blue with Black leather trim the car Bruce decided that he would do a light restoration on the car and repaint the exterior and change the interior colour to something more striking that showed the lines of the car better and so a shiny Black colour was chosen and was painted by the best in the business his friends in F1 who have done a beautiful job and it still fantastic today, the interior needed a contrasting colour so having a chat with friends and family a suggestion was made “why don’t you have it in Cream leather” and that suggestion was made by his father in law who happened to be a very well known leather upholsterer and looked after all the leather work for the Queens Royal households, it was agreed that it would be done free of charge as it was to be a gift to his son in law and so hence the colour combination today.
The car has been Maintained by Bruce himself as he is more than qualified to do it and if there was something he was not sure about he had plenty of freinds to help or advice including a trip to the Webber carburettor factory and pumping in to a old mate, having a chat over coffee and talking cars the Maserati came up in conversation had his mate said “ I think I’ve got something for you” it turns out Webber were asked to design some new upgrades fuel jets for the Merak but by the time they had been made the Merak production had stopped so there were a few boxes of these jets in storage as they never went in to any Maserati’s except for this car!
in the last few years the car has been in storage and is currently looked after by a friend of mine who is based at Biggin Hill airport where it is stored at a friend of Bruce a Big collector storage facility ( I am informed).
Viewing of the car will be at Biggin Hill at my friends workshop facility and he is a Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati service and restoration expert.
